“The Zionists will not enjoy security in ... all the colonies around Gaza as long as their crimes continue,” said Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas’ military wing.
Interesting. If you ask me, I don't understand why the people of Gaza don't think it's a crime when they continuously barrage rockets at Israel, especially towards Sderot, intentionally hurting Israeli civilians. Not politicians. Civilians. Silly Israel was thinking of peace at that time....I suppose someone can only poke and prod at you so much until you finally scream.
Despite this, I don't want to be in Gaza. Simply put, I don't want anyone else to get killed.
As for a two state solution...I hate it. Two reasons:
1. Haven't Palestinian militants already proven that when they get land from Israel they only use it to throw more rockets at Israel (i.e. from the former Gush Katif)? So wouldn't they just do it from their new state too?
2. It would break my heart not to be able to see parts of Israel anymore. I think this goes the same way for the Palestinians. I was reading Sandy Tolan's "The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East." I haven't finished the book, but in the beginning, Tolan gives a vivid description of an Arab entering Israel after many years. He watched Israel from the bus window, absorbing every detail with such vigor and desire. I was surprised how universal this feeling is among us...she very well could have been describing me when I went to Israel.
I would be delighted if we could all live with a one state solution. I think much of Israel wants this, and although I'm not Palestinian, I think many of them would go for it too. I wish I could say that this wasn't my naive'te speaking...but if it hasn't happened until now, what makes me think it could happen now?
